Podcasts for Math, Statistics, and Data Analysis

Do you listen to podcasts? Do you want to learn more about math or statistics? This post is for you! It’s also for those of you who may not necessarily love statistics and numbers (hey, it’s not for everyone), but want to learn more or need some clarification. Sometimes things that are difficult for us just require a little extra explanation, and then can end up becoming enjoyable. We’ve put together some podcasts about data analysis and statistics for you to help you get started.

Data Skeptic

This podcast is a mix of discussion and interviews related to data science, statistics, artificial intelligence, and more. Topics include text mining in R, authorship attribution, Bayesian theory, Kalman filters, and much, much more. Lots of good stuff with this one.

Stats + Stories

The tagline for this podcast describes it as a podcast about the statistics behind the stories and the stories behind the statistics. It’s a result of a partnership between Miami University’s Departments of Statistics and Media, Journalism and Film, and the American Statistical Association. Recent episodes tackled topics like what’s so great about being a statistician, re-evaluating p-values, forensic science and statistics, mapping disease, and how to become a data scientist.

Relatively Prime

This podcast is chock full of stories and interviews from the math world. Recent podcasts covered Black mathematicians, mathematical movies, diversity in graduate education, and more. Pop culture meets math meets academics is the overall feel of this one – don’t miss it!

The Math Dude: Quick and Dirty Tips to Make Math Easier

This podcast has been dormant for a while, but it’s worth listening to if you’re anxious or apprehensive about math. Topics covered include how are distances and absolute values related, FAQs about percentages, 5 steps of problem solving, and more. This might be especially helpful if you’re taking refresher courses in math or are curious about math but don’t know much about it.

Initially I had trouble writing my Project scope for my DBA  as I have an undergraduate in English and an MBA which meant I could write essays at a business report level but not a doctorate level. I reached out to Dr Leach at a Thesis Editor and she spoke with me over the phone several times trying to understand what I needed. She also put together a quick turnaround package as my deadline was very close by. Ultimately, she scheduled an appointment with an editor with many years of experience who guided me back onto the right path. My supervisors at university had only helped me a little but the Thesis Editor team have supported me entirely. I am not only grateful but will be working with Thesis Editor for the entirety of my DBA - the next 4 years. Thank you Dr Leach and thank you to the Thesis Editor team for a wonderful experience.
