Coaching and Consultation
Thesis Editor offers students and researchers the often elusive opportunity to have an experienced doctorate available to review your thesis and offer guidance and advice through the entire development process. We provide coaching and consultation services in two ways: 1) in direct conversation, through our one-on-one consultation service 2) and in written form, as part of our line editing, heavy editing, or methodological/statistical document review service.
PhD students are often overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. A one-on-one coaching session with our editors, who have been there, usually helps!

One-On-One Coaching and Consultation
Our One-on-One Coaching and Consultation service allows clients to speak directly with either one of our editor or statistician consultants/coaches about their project. We carefully pair each client with a consultant who is appropriately suited to the clients’ specific needs.
If you are in the beginning stages of your project, a coach can help you refine your ideas, develop a research plan, and set out a writing schedule. Supervisor’s feedback is a common topic of discussion with our coaches or consultants. Clients often use our consultation service after they have had a heavy line edit or methodological/statistical review of an early-stage draft. This gives them the opportunity to review our editor's developmental feedback and, together, determine a plan to move forward with the paper.
Coaching and consultation sessions are billed by the hour and generally conducted via phone. Rates are typically between £90-£100/hour for a single consultation, with discounts on packages of 5 or more consultations. Please refer to our Rates and Pricing page for details.
We are happy to arrange consultations via an alternative telecommunication platform, such as Skype or WhatsApp, if that is preferred. Please contact us to discuss the consultation/coaching services with one of our Academic Consultants, who can offer advice on which service might benefit you most.
We also provide coaching and consultation through our Heavy/Developmental Editing Service or Line Editing service, where your editor analyses the structure of your thesis and strength of your argument in the course of editing your document and provides you with written feedback containing suggestions and advice on how to develop your work further.
Common issues addressed through critical review include:
- Conceptualization and planning
- Reviewing and critiquing sources
- Structure and logical flow
- Thesis development
- Articulation, argumentation, and clarity
- Research analysis
- Validity and applicability
- Statistical analysis
- Plagiarism check
Written Methodological or Statistical Feedback
One way we provide coaching and consultation for specific methodological or statistical questions is as part of our Document Review Service, wherein your methodologist or statistician provides a critical review of the methodology or statistics in your document and provides you with comprehensive written feedback containing suggestions and advice on how to develop your work further.
Common issues addressed through the document review include:
- Strengthen and clarify the discussion of the research methodology
- Review of instruments/measures
- Review and critique of data analysis plans
- Validity and reliability
- Assessment of statistical analysis interpretation
