Happy Pi Day! While we love pie here at Thesis Editor (and let’s be real, who doesn’t), we also love pi – especially our stats team. So what is Pi Day? March 14th, or 3/14 – the chronological equivalent of pi, the mathematical term for 3.14, or the ration of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. In actuality, pi is much more than 3.14 – over a trillion digits beyond the decimal point have been calculated and it continues indefinitely. For most intents and purposes, though, we know pi as just 3.14. If you’d like more information on pi, check out this site here.

Why not lean into your geekiness and have some fun with Pi Day? Take a breather from the dissertation grind for a day and mix things up a bit!  Here are some ways to celebrate this magical mathematical holiday.

Eat foods that begin with “pi.” Pizza, pineapple, pierogies, and of course, pie – which foods can you think of?

Celebrate Albert Einstein. While he didn’t discover pi, 3/14 is his birthday. Teach your students about him, discuss famous quotations, and learn more about this noted genius.

Make bracelets. If you have children, why not make pipe cleaner bracelets with colored beads? Assign each color bead a number and then make a bracelet with a form of pi.

Bake. Make cookies or a pie with chocolate chips in the shape of the pi symbol, or spelling out 3.14. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, what about making a pizza from scratch with your favorite topping in the shape of the pi symbol?

Watch a math or numbers-related movie! There are more than you think, including: Proof, A Beautiful Mind, Moneyball, The Man Who Knew Infinity, 21, Pi, or The Theory of Everything.

After you’ve celebrated pi, Thesis Editor’s stats team can help you with any math or statistics-related issue or question you might have.
